Title: Jason Newsted to be part of the next rockstar show
Description: tis rumoured.
Kirkus Hammettus - March 16, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
According to Variety.com, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee, along with bassist Jason Newsted (VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA) and Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES), are forming a new band called SUPERNOVA and will use the "Rock Star" TV program to search for a lead singer. In addition, "Rock Star" has signed songwriter-performer Butch Walker to produce SUPERNOVA's first album, to be released just before the new band hits the road in 2007. Walker, named Rolling Stone's 2005 "hot" producer, has written or produced tracks for AVRIL LAVIGNE, PINK, BOWLING FOR SOUP and TOMMY LEE.
Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke will return as hosts. Each weekly episode, which will air on CBS-TV, will also now feature guest appearances by celebs or rockers.
"Friends of mine, like Slash, Macy Gray, Moby and Rob Zombie, will join us and throw in their two cents about who should stay and who should go," Navarro said.
Lee released his third solo album two years ago and starred in NBC's "Tommy Lee Goes to College" last year.
Newsted left METALLICA in 2003, forming the band ECHOBRAIN and performing for technothrash band VOIVOD. Clarke has worked with various artists since GN'R split, including Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz.
Burnett, David Goffin, Lisa Hennessy, Navarro, Lee and Carl Stubner will exec produce the second season of "Rock Star". Conrad Riggs and Eden Gaha are co-exec producers.

Yes, I am quite sure it will be aired in the UK.
Apparently the first series, where they were looking for a new singer for INXS, was on VH1 in the UK and it may have also been on ITV2.
We will be going from no Jason to Jason every week. :nanner:
I am interested to see how Jason will work with two glam rockers. I hope he does not start donning make-up and stilletoes. Hopefully he won't change and just stay true to himself and his fans.

I've got a question...Do metallica fans hate jason? Or the band themselves?

I think everybody has their own opinions on him.
I...don't really know, I guess I'm on the fence about him.

Hon.... Jason is going to be one of the members of the new band - Supernova - along with Tommy Lee and Gilby Clarke, who are going to pick themselves a new lead singer. Jason's not a contestant.

the first series was only aired on VH1, it was not aired on another channel in the UK
so i doubt if this series will be aired on ITV2 I would take a guess it will be aired on VH1 again or another music channel

AwayFromMe - March 21, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
I'll watch this show, if only for a good laugh. I don't know about this whole supernova band thing. It sounds really ridiculous to me. Anyways, if I remember right, this show got extremely low ratings last season and it was moved to VH1 in hopes of getting better ratings. I watched it until they started mangling Nirvana covers then I stopped tuning in every week. But hey, that's my opinion and I'm standing by it as well as just putting it on the table, not wanting to start WWIII or something.
Vixenrouge - March 21, 2006 11:22 AM (GMT)
Well, there will only be one star attraction for me. :drool :drool
I don't usually watch reality rubbish and I wouldn't watch this if Jason was not in it.
hewhoisiam - March 21, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
I've got to admit, that as much as I love Jason, I'm a little irritated with him right now.
What is more "Fucking lame"? (as he so bluntly said on SKOM)
Taking therapy to help you through tough times, addictions, egos, and internal strife in order to keep the biggest rock band on the planet from disbanding prematurely?
OR
Starring in a reality TV show along side a caracature named Tommy Lee, and looking for a lead singer for a band that will probably record one- if any albums, in front of a national audience?
For someone that has always alledegly been about the music, it seems like a pretty "fucking lame" publicity stunt.
Just my 2 cents.
Vixenrouge - March 21, 2006 08:33 PM (GMT)
Your opinion counts Chris.
I hope this show is not too cheesy. We will see how much of an ass Jason makes of himself. Hopefully he will not make a laughing stock of himself. If he does, he could end up losing loyal fans. I have heard that this Dave Navarro (presenter of Rockstar) character really loves himself. Hopefully Jason won't act the same.

Don't get me wrong- I love Jason and always have, I just think he's gotten away from who he portrayed himself as during the years he was in Metallica.
If it makes him happy, thats all that counts. I just can't see making an album with a band whose lead singer was voted on by any idiot with a phone, alongside a notoriously flaky bandmate, as something that would make Jason happy.
He was always the guy I saw as TOTALLy serious about the music, but I don't think holding a reality show cometition to fill a band slot counts as too serious.

AHHHH Gilby Clark no waaaaaaaaaayy!!! PUT IZZY STRADLIN THERE INSTEAD!!!
Dont let macy grey judge!!
And Tommy Lee, bleurghhhh!!!
I wanna see this, and then choke with laughter....and pray tommy lee falls over...but i love gilby and jason....it will be a laugh.
Kirkus Hammettus - March 22, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
Macy Gray? Judging? holy fuck. *shudders*
R@quel - March 22, 2006 06:25 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to judge Jason because of this. He's a great musician who helped make some of my favorite Metallica albums. Is this a mistake? I have no clue. But I don't think Jason Newsted is the first and only member of Metallica to do a silly TV show. Dave the Barbarian anyone? Just my opinion.

I've got to say I see QUITE a difference between doing a voice over for a small part in a show your children are big fans of, and holding a reality show copetition to find a lead singer of a band.
It's not so much that Jason is doing it- he sure as hell doesn't answer to me. I just found it interesting that he would participate in such a sideshow.
I'm betting if we took a vote, "Starring in a reality show with Tommy Lee" would rank way ahead of "Getting therapy" on the grand list of things which are "Fucking Lame" to the general public.
Hopefully, it won't be a joke and make them all look like idiots, but when you're put in the hands of reality tv show producers, anything can and will happen.
R@quel - March 22, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
That's true. I really hope Jason doesn't come out looking foolish. I just feel like he's been pawing at success since he's left Metallica, and he can't quite get a hold of it. I think he thought his name would carry him through, but it didn't unfortunately.

Hey, there's a lot of truth in that Raquel. It seems like he kinda misses the hype from being in Metallica. Maybe? I don't know but hewhoisiam is right about a reality tv show ranking higher than therapy on the grand scheme of things. Did I just see someone type Macy Gray judging? 0_o
Vixenrouge - March 24, 2006 08:38 AM (GMT)
Jason has said that he is looking for someone to hang out with, rather than a frontman.
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermo...ewsitemID=50064OMG. Where is this going? Does Jason still care about his loyal fans anymore? We exist. Please acknowledge us. You never say anything on the Chophouse site.
One thing I can say for Lars, even though I'm not that keen on him, he acknowledges his fans. He is the spokesman for Metallica and always keeps you fans informed about whats going on. He does not shut you all out.
PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE US!!!!!! :angry
JASON WILL PROBABLY FIND A LOAD OF NEW FANS FROM THIS SHOW. WE ARE NOT NEEDED. :angry :angry
heavymetalhippy01cg - March 24, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
Yes Dave Navarro mentioned Macy Gray.
I would love it, if izzy stradlin judged, that would be the best! I think i might just watch it simply for that.....thats not gonna happen.
metallilisa - March 24, 2006 03:46 PM (GMT)
This is so fucking pathetic. Real rock stars don't go on T.V. shows to find a bandmate. It's as bad as American Ideal. Ick. Talk about a bunch of sellouts!
TakeNoPrisoners - March 25, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
I used to think Jason was so metal and cool but when he left Metallica i thought he sucked. But now this... I knew Tommy Lee was a sell out when he had a solo album but Jason... I wonder what James thinks about this after his comment on him as "gay"
And finding a frontman cant be found by TV! There has to be a connection in the band. You cant let people vote for your band mate!!! IDIOT!!!!
JASON=SELL OUT

I completely agree!

I dont' want anyone to take this the wrong way, but if you dont' like the idea of this show, then dont' worry about it dont' watch it. It's Jason's life and if it makes him happy then so be it. If it fails and he fails it isn't our problem it will only be his. I for one say as long as Jason is happy then that is all that matters. He doesnt' owe anyone anything except himself and the people who believe in him. Just my two cents.

I agree TakeNoPrisioners they shouldnt let other people vote for/choose their bandmate. and Tommy Lee? Dave Navarro? Macy Gray?! god, i hold nothing against them but them being involved with Jason? JASE GETAWAAAAAY!!
Im new btw :wavey enjoyin this board. |
:( What I'm not really understanding is everyone's problem with this whole Rockstar thing? I mean so what if Jason wants to be involved it in. It's his life, he doesn't sit around telling us what we should or shoulnd't do and threating to lose respect in us as people cause of some of the choices we make in life. It's his life let him live it in peace already. I really dont' think he is looking for anyone's support in his doing this. Just his own happiness and free will.

Never said he should or shouldn't do it. Quite the contrary, actually. I said if it makes him happy- go for it.
What I DID say is that it makes him look like quite the hypocrite, and that, I stand by.

Vixenrouge - April 5, 2006 07:12 AM (GMT)
Well, to be honest, I don't think Jason would be bothered by all the detracters. He put up with Lar$ and James for so long, so he can handle this reaction to Rockstar
This must have been a difficult decision for him. He MUST HAVE realised how much criticism and disbelief there would be, even amongst his own fans.
KHammeth - April 5, 2006 08:03 AM (GMT)
I dunno if i should be talking here, i mean, we didn't have the Amercan Idol here and either will we have the Rockstar thing. But i agree with whoever said that he should do whatever makes him happy - it is his choice, and i'm sure he thought a lot about taking this step before actually doing it. And since he decided to do it, he must know helluva lot more about it than us.
Don't let all the Kirk pics surrounding my name fool you, i love each and every Met member, wether still in the band or not.... What makes me kinda sad is that Jason hasn't yet found the band to stick with, one to really really belong to.
I just wish him all the luck - even if this thing might not get him all cheers from everyone, if it makes him happy and he thinks it's the right choice, it's all i need to know.

hmmm okay i'm a little back in the times. i read about this in a local mag today and now i've run across this thread. for some reason i can't picture jase and tommy lee and them all sharing a stage. i wonder what the boys in Metallica think about this????
