Title: Shaving 'down there'
Description: Your opinions?

Metfuk - July 9, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
Hey there people. I came up with this topic idea after a conversation with my friend. I don't know if this topic is allowed here, but I just wanted to know your views on this, in a serious matter of course. I do not have any other intentions.

My friend told me she and her boyfriend always shave their public hairs. Their reasons being that it is disgusting during oral sex activities and that it is just gross in general.
I do not agree with them. IMO, the hair is there for a reason, otherwise there wouldn't be any hair at that place. I never touch mine because I'm afraid it comes back even more (I heard this is the case).
Also I do NOT expect my future woman to remove hers either.

What I was wondering now though, how common is it in todays society to remove the hair down there? I never talk about it with people, other than that one time with my friend and it left me wondering who is the most 'normal' out of the two of us here? Is everyone shaving it these days or is she and her bf an exception?

Uh, interesting topic, dude  Well, I don't know what it's like in Europe, but I guess it's about fifty-fifty here. I'm a virgin, but I've talked to friends, many of them say they trim their pubic hair because their boyfriends don't like it too hairy, that it can be a turnoff for some guys. The others say they shave because it's more hygienic, in their opinion. What I don't like is the Brazilian, or those crazy waxes, that's got to be painful as hell down there :o Worse is when they brag about it  Hopefully someone else will come up with something better :P

Maybe we as virgins have easy talk. :P
But the hygiene thing...I guess if you shower everyday (like I do), I don't see how it can become nasty.

My friend also told me that if they have sex and it has been growing back for like a couple of days, it feels awfull...like sandpaper! :ugh:
Well uh, I don't fancy any of that shit. I've also heard it itches like hell.

Maybe trimming is an option to reach a compromise, but only if it can be done easily without too much effort.

american_beauty - July 9, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
LOL at the topic idea.

But I'll get to the point :cool I don't have a boyfriend and I've never been in a situation of being naked around a man so, I leave the thing as it is, just maybe taking care of the edges to look decent in a bikini or whatever... But if I ever get a boyfriend I'm 99% sure I'm gonna shave it off, it's just so obvious too me. I know it's getting rid of the protection in those areas, but the esthetic point is way stronger. When it comes to guys, I don't think shaving their hair down there is as common, but it would be nice if they had it trimmed at least.

Lars sex slave - July 9, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
cool topic :P well I don't shave 'down there' :P 'cause its like you said: "the hairs are there for something"! I have friends who shave for the boyfriends but don't feel very good and do it just to please him...thats so silly!!! its your body! if your bf/gf really likes you he/she will respect you! but well I'm another virgin so I know nothing about being disgusting or not! :P

Clanswoman - July 9, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
ehm so iīll be the first one here who can share some experiences ...
i agree with what your friend says, max, it does feel better when itīs shaved when youīre having sex, at least in my opinion... and it looks better as well, but itīs everyoneīs own thing i think..

and it doesnot really feel like sandpaper when it grows back after a couple of days, itīs not as bad as you mght have imagined :P

interesting...never though that shaving *ahem* would make the sex better!!!

but I trust you since I have no experience at all!

Nah, I actually think it's a good topic and I think it's the right place to put it. I think it's probably an issue that could cause a lot of anexiety in a person, especially to those who maybe aren't so sure about how to deal with it in the face of sex and considering it isn't something people would necissarily talk about with their friends, then I think it's pretty awesome that we can all talk about it pretty openly here ^_^

To be honest, shaving ALL my body hair off - I don't like it, regardless of whether or not it's there for a reason - just gives me a confidence boost. It's nothing to do with what my boyfriend likes; I'll do as I please, he has no say in it. I don't ask him to shave his chest, so it works both ways. It makes me feel good about myself, it makes me feel like I'm properly set up and well, for the lack of a better word, groomed.

Urgh.

I sound like a poodle.

For me it was a complex. I had a freakishly early puberty and hair started growing there at 10, and I was far too immature to handle it. I was disgusted, and shaved it off, and as a result just always have ever since. A traumatization thing, I guess.

If I'd been 15-18 when it had happened, I probably wouldn't have minded and would had just left it there.

Same with periods. Got them too early, when I was too young and immature to be able to handle them, so I never could stand them either. I spent seven years in hell dealing with them and then when I was 18 I went on the Depo Provera shot to get rid of them.

I would never do it for a boyfriend, but then there's a lot of things that I'm not willing to bend over backwards for in relationships.

So yeah, I guess I just never considered it "natural" there because it happened at an unnatural age.

I can relate to that, I started puberty at ten too  I was the first girl in my class to get their period and it was embarrassing at school. I don't shave, though, even though I have a lot, I do trim it when I wear a bathing suit because it's gross to have the hairs sticking out like that :ugh:

HammerofJustice - July 10, 2008 12:35 PM (GMT)

Excuse me for an offtopic, but what is a Depo Provera? Could you please explain it to me?

I trim it + shave at the edges (bikini line).

And  @ "welcome to the jungle" , Bryant

It's a type of birth control administered by injection, it can also stop your periods and some doctors prescribe it for girls with very heavy, painful periods.

Thanks, I also did some research on the net and got very interested in it! Oh, how I'd love to get rid of periods! :angry

TheDutchess - July 10, 2008 01:34 PM (GMT)
I shave it at the edges, only if I'm going out for a swim. But now that I have surf shorts matching my bikini top, that's shouldn't be a problem.
I hate to do it, you know, it itches when it grows back.

Body hair is a big topic for me, 'cause 1) I have dark hair and 2) I'm afraid of razorblades...
I know it's sounds stupid, but... My mom tried to shave my legs one time, and when the blade was inches away of my leg, I pulled my leg back. I even cried 'cause I was scared so much, and because my mom got a little "mad" at me for being afraid.

Same here. Having my period that early wasn't really easy.
Plus I had problems with using tampons at that time (I know that's a bit weird) so I still feel a bit ugly today...

I have to say that I'm shaving 'down there'. I just feel better especially during my period. (And I guess my boyfriend likes it better that way, too, though I never asked him)
I think it's fifty-fifty in Germany too. I know people who shave and I know some who don't.

are I could imagine that boys especially like it more when girls shaved when it comes to oral sex, but my boyfriend doesn't shave that regularly and I don't mind if he isn't.

That's an issue everyone should decide for themselves If you don't want to do it, don't do it. As someone said before me: it's your body so it's your decision.

dmcgowan - July 10, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
Well on the topic of shaving " down there " . I know that a lot of men preffer for women to completely shave or wax down their . Men on the other hand , I rarely hear of them shaving down there or even trimming thier pubic hair . Some men expect women to shave down there , it makes sex better appaently (sp) . I'm a virgin so I cannot confirm the whole sex thing .

I personally "trim" down there . I once completely shaved everything off, it was horrible I ened up with razor burn down there and the stubble felt horrible on the skin .

For me it felt the like sandpaper a couple days after shaving .

In terms of hygene for some people I can understand that shaving their pubic hair would be more clean then just washing . Women are not supposed to wash with soap down thier frequently , because soap kills all of the bacteria even the good bacteria , and it becomes more easy to get a yeast infection. Shaving frequently will do that too .

Roxie.Whiplash - July 10, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
I am one of the individuals who shaves it all off.
I know full well the effects of being shaven has on sexual experience, seeing as I have been in a relationship where the other individual shaves as well.
While the main point is that it is more asthetically pleasing, it also incresases sensitivity in said area [though that may not be the case for everyone] which, in turn, makes for a more pleasurable experience.
It doesn't itch as horribly as everyone makes it out to be, just a smalll pang of irritation every once in a while, but it's tolerable.
And to clear that whole "sandpaper" deal up, it does indeed irritate the skin of the person giving oral pleasure when it's growing in, and since I honestly would not want to go into detail, I will just leave it at that. If you must keep it shaven at all times, I recommend shaving regularly or just resisting carnal pleasues when possible.
Shaving too much can irritate the area as well so give yourself a small period of time when you can just give it a rest and let nature take its course.
I can't imagine getting a brazilian wax, it just sounds way too painful.

Metfuk - July 10, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Talking about painful...
My friend says she and her boyfriend depilate (yank them out manually) their hairs. How painful must that be? especially in that area!
She said "It will prevent the hairs from growing back after some time". Or they will get thinner.

Lars sex slave - July 10, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
I depilate but only in the boards..not the full thing...its painful sure...sometimes I think why the hell am I doing this??? society doesn't seem to like girls with hairy legs

Depo Provera is a birth control, but like any other birth control, can be used to regulate/suppress your cycle. It's a shot given every 3 months. I haven't had a period since 2003, and love it . . .

Some girls don't like it because weight gain is a side effect, but I was so scrawny and underweight that I actually needed that side effect . . .

Well that phenomenon really is stupid, I think . . . I would love to know what macho chauvinistic idiot created the trend that women have to shave their legs and underarms.

Pubic is one thing, because having hair there can be uncomfortable. But hair on the legs and underarms for girls? Who the hell is going to notice if they're not swimming or at the gym? I never bother in the winter and nobody is ever going to know.

Certainly doesn't make the female legs or underarms any less hygenic than males' hair in those areas.

Right, like I was saying above, as long as you don't mind a little weight gain. I was one of the few girls that desperately needed it, so it was fine for me.

The first year you may get some very light spotting from time to time, not so bothersome that a tampon is needed though. Then it'll all just go away completely. Also take calcium daily, because some people have had bone loss from it. Then just get a bone mass scan every few years.

So with that being said, definitely talk to your doctor about it. There's no practical reason to suffer through periods, honestly.

maisy blue - July 11, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
For me, Depo put on 20 pounds of excess weight (the weight literally went on within one week of the shot and came immediately off right after my last shot- very weird) and bad skin. However, my periods stopped and my depression really subsided. However, the weight gain and bad skin was too much for me to deal with so I went off. It's sort of a touchy drug- if you have issues with weight or depression, you have to talk to your doctor. It also kills sex drive in A LOT of people. I mean, TOTALLY wipes it out completely and it doesn't come back.

I just went off ALL birth control and it's insane. I've been on birth control since I was 13 because of my heavy periods and now that my husband is "fixed" I don't need it anymore. So I was on it for 20 years straight. Everything is out of whack.

p.s. regarding the shaving thing- a lot of swimmers shave all excess body hair. Once you start doing it regularly, it becomes really easy and it's not a big deal. It doesn't grow in extra thick after you do it.

Yeah, it's definately WAAAAAY more acceptable now to shave off everything. More people, girls especially, have no hair "down there." It's almost expected these days. I personally think body hair is gross. I like to be smooth all over. TMI? Maybe. But I feel it's more hygenic and it looks nicer, IMO.

Well i have bad experience with that...well you wanna know...ok I tell you...

I read all about the side effects, but some women don't experience them, you know each body reacts differently, so I would definitely hope NOT to gain a gram (I'm fluffy enough...).

I think I'm gonna hold on some time and ask my doctor about it when I really need birth control.

I shave ALL my body hair, and I think I've done it actually since I first got it. I just don't feel clean if I don't shave, and if it ever comes to that, I'd surely avoid sex if I hadn't shaved in a while. It has nothing to do with what guys exept, it's just what I feel most comfortable with :)
I think shaving pubic hair might me more common over here.. All my girl friends does it, and I know some guys who actually shaves as well.

Honestly, I've never experienced any problems with shaving. To me, it doesn't at all hurt when it grows back.. Maybe I'm just weird :P
